Langtang Region

The famous Langtang region located in the north of Kathmandu belongs to the Langtang National Park which is Nepal’s second largest national park. The area is rich in Tibetan culture and bio-diversity. Langtang and Helambu are the two different areas. The river valley of Langtang offers healthy forests, some endangered wildlife, breathtaking view of high mountains including Langtang Lirung (7245 m), the tallest in the region, holly lake Gosainkund and most importantly the live culture of the people. The Bhote Kosi, Trisuli river valley is an important migratory route for birds traveling between India and Tibet. The Helambu region is the settlement of the famous Sherpa people situated in the southern buffer of the National Park. Langtang and Helambu region is easily accessible from Kathmandu. The area offers mountaineering, adventure trekking as well as pilgrimage treks. The area is quite popular for learning Tibetan culture. The Langtang region which falls in the central Nepal, is very easily accessible from Kathmandu. Langtang is a narrow valley that lies just south of the Tibetan border Kyirong. Gosainkunda, high up within an open ridge, offers shorter treks than Langtang. Gosainkund Lake (4,298 m), is sacred spot and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is a holy lake where thousands of pilgrims gather every year during August full moon. Shiva is said to have created holy Gosainkund Lake with his trident, and its waters are believed to be connected via subterranean channels to Patan's Khumbeshwar Mahadev temple. Around this region there are other 13 beautiful lakes. This high and isolated region is inhabited by Tamangs whose religious practices, language and dress are much more similar to those of Tibet than to the traditions of their cousins in the middle hills. The upper valley in Langtang is a grazing paradise, rich in flowers and grass and dotted with stone huts used in the summertime butter-making. Rhododenron forests, Tamang villages and smiling faces are the main highlights of this region. Once you are in you are walking through a preserved National Park area where, if you are lucky, might encounter with wild animals like wild boar, bear, barking dear, leopard , Blue Sheep,Himalayan Thar or even red panda.
